Pre-Dragon Ball
Long ago, on the Planet Conuts, it's inhabitants lived in peace. They erected a massive statue, a totem to collect their evil energy, so that greed and lust would not overtake their better judgments. However, an evil tribe of Madoshi, or Warlocks, used the totem for their own evil ends. With their magic, they brought the statue to life, creating the evil monster Hildegarn. Hildegarn ravaged the planet. The Conutsians knew not of war, and so had no way to defend their home. Until their Kami, the God of their world, intervened, and passed down Holy Weapons with which to defeat the monster; a magical sword and two ocarinas. Two brothers, Tapion and Minoshia, used the ocarinas to stun the beast while a Priest in the service of God used the mystical blade to cleave Hildegarn in two. Down, Hildegarn's two halves were sealed inside the brothers. To prevent him from becoming whole again, the Conutsian elders sealed Tapion and Minoshia away in magical music boxes, and launched them to opposite ends of the universe. |
Tapion put up a valiant effort to keep Hildegarn in check, but in the end, when his bottom half was near, the resonation between the two halves proved to be too great for Tapion to handle and Hildegarn became whole. In an attempt to defend their own world, Goku, Gohan, Goten, and Vegeta all attacked Hildegarn, but to little effect, as the foul beast could change to mere mist making any attack futile. When Goten and Trunks fused into Gotenks, and assaulted Hildegarn with a show of Super Saiyajin 3 power, it seemed the monster was actually hurt. However, Hildegarn merely shed his skin and re-emerged as a new beast. In one last ditch effort, Tapion attempted to seal the complete Hildegarn within himself. However, the effort proved to be fruitless as Hildegarn burst free, shattering the ocarina. Trunks launched an assault with the mystical sword, but in the end, it was Son Goku who made a final stand against Hildegarn. Goku realized Hildegarn was solid and vulnerable when he attack, and with this, he worked up all his power and struck at the monster at the right moment, ripping through him and finally ridding the universe of the evil phantasm. |

Name Pun
Hildegarn is a pun on "Hirude Gaan". It is said that Seichi Hirude, Co-Producer of DBZ Movie 13 didn't like the original design and demanded he be changed. Upon seeing the new design, his jaw dropped. Since the "gaan" sound effect in Japanese symbolizes jaw dropping, they named the character "Hirudegaan" or "Hildegarn". |
