The ability to sense Ki is a useful technique that is fairly unique to Earth's inhabitants as it seems to be uncommon in the Universe. It was shown that none of Freeza's henchmen or even Freeza himself possessed this skill. The technique itself allows a person to simply feel out a person's life energy. If the user is skilled enough, he or she can tell the exact location of the person being sensed, how fatigued they are, and in some cases, even how evil they may be. The ability to sense has many practical applications, and is even useful in battle, as it allows the user to know where their opponent is, even if they are out of sight.

However, this technique is completely ineffective against most kinds of Jinzoningen, as they typically have no Ki to be sensed. Also, it is more difficult to use this technique to track someone with little Ki. Many characters can even suppress their Ki, making it more difficult to locate them.
